The Arlington Million
Even more good news for me this week, I’m going Stateside!!
I was on my way to the races when I got the call to say I’ll be riding Wigmore Hall in The Arlington Million which is in Chicago on Saturday, yea!!
He seems to thrive off his long distance journey’s, my friend Gill is taking care of him over there and says he’s in good order. Wouldn’t mind a slice of that prize money! The Arlington Million News
Dream Ahead
Over the next few days I was paying more attention to the weather than Michael Fish, Dream Ahead would only run if the ground was not to firm. I hung out my washing, whenever I do that it rains and thankfully it did.
It all went smoothly, I got legged up on Dream Ahead, a beautiful animal with a very casual attitude, David his trainer has a similar attitude, very chilled out and easy going. I think it’s important to be like that on a big day. The race panned out well for us and he won with ease. An amazing performance and in my opinion will be very difficult to beat over 6 furlongs this year. I then went from being calm and focused to a very annoying over excited child.
I spent the evening celebrating with friends, I would tell you more, but if I’m honest, I don’t remember!!!
Poor Jessica Ennis
The morning I returned from my boat trip I went in to Michael Bell yards to ride out a filly I had been very excited about named after Jessica Ennis (a proper athlete) she had been a little tricky in the stall and as she was due to run that weekend The Guv’nor thought it wise to give her one final experience through the gates before the big day. Sadly she broke out of the gate, deposited me on the way out and decided to make her own way home. Unfortunately she didn’t make it back in one piece. She is fine but won’t make it to a race course. Bubble burst!!
I was extremely disappointed, she was a filly I thought may take me places and kindly the Highclare team were happy to have me on board. In my sulky mood I was dragging my feet around the supermarket when the phone rang, my agent Guy Jewell, I told him the story and said how my bubble had burst, in which he replied “well let me re-inflate that, you ride Dream Ahead in the July Cup” ……NICE!!!!
